[FFF]: ORAS Pokémon I’m most excited for.

[This post is done as part of GaCoWriMo, my own personal twist to NaNoWriMo. It is also part of my FFF: Friday Favourite Five series. It is also in my Countdown to Pokémon ORAS series.]

Well, technically, this isn’t in my countdown to Pokémon ORAS anymore since I’m a proud owner of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire as of this morning. Still, ORAS hasn’t been released in some parts of the world yet and I won’t be starting till Tuesday when my pocket monster battling buddy reaches local shores so I’m counting it anyway.

The other isn’t mine. Sadly.

As with every release of a Pokémon game, there will be some critters I’m particularly excited about using. There aren’t any new Pokémon per se in this series since they are remakes but there are several new Megas so here are the five I’m most looking forward to getting my hands on:

1. Mega Swampert

260-m

I’ve traditionally gone for the water starter every generation and it sure helped that Swampert was a powerhouse with great typing, stats, and moves. Still, I wasn’t too keen on the original’s design. I (mega) love its mega forme though! It somehow manages to look insanely powerful but insanely adorable as well, which I think we all agree is a criteria we all want to meet in life.

2. Mega Sharpedo

319-m

Continuing the aqualoving, Sharpedo was actually my water Pokémon of choice in the later parts of RSE, mostly because I really loved his design compared to Swampert’s. With Mega Swampert around, it might be hard to draft this dude into my team but I’ll have to find a way to do it because I’m really digging his new look (and the fact that he’s less crystal cannon-y), even if he’s still missing half a body.

3. Mega Beedrill

015-m

I don’t think anyone was expecting this fella to get an upgrade (especially since this isn’t even his generation) but I for one am thrilled. I always loved the original’s design but never got to use him because of his poor typing and even poorer stats. Now he looks slightly more battle-ready (not to mention cooler), even if he’ll still die to, like, a Peck.

4. Mega Latios

381-m

I’ve never gotten to use this guy because my friends and I have a no-ubers rule (although we should just start our own little ubers tier now that pretty much every legendary is available in this game) but I’ve always thought his design was cool. Plus, he’s kinda necessary now if I want to go zipping around the Hoenn region.

5. Primal Kyogre

382-p

I know this is not technically a mega forme but, hey, it’s still something so it still counts. Like with Latios, I never got to use this fella but I’ve always wanted to. I mean, look at him. He’s a giant whale (that sure is a heck of a lot more lordy than Wailord) with cool tattoos. Kyogre is pretty much the ultimate water Pokémon and his trailer appearances in his primal forme looked really really awesome.

Dear reader, have you gotten ORAS or are planning to? Which Pokémon are you most excited to use?

Megamazing.

I no liek Mudkipz.

That’s right. Unlike what appears to be the rest of the world, I’ve never been fond of the water starter family from Gen 3. Sure, Swampert was a veritable powerhouse in competitive battling, the epitome of the bulky water with great typing and a decent move pool. But I’ve always been a fond believer of judging Pokémon by their cover and always found the Mudkip family design rather meh (a problem common to all the water starters except the latest one, but most strongly here).

Until now.

I’m loving Mega Swampert! Sure, Mega Blaziken’s been totally cool (and totally banned) throughout XY’s reign as the latest Pokémon title and Mega Sceptile, with its grass/dragon typing, looks to be pretty awesome too (even if it’ll die to, like, an Icy Wind), but it’s Mega Swampert that has stolen my heart.

I mean, look at the guy! He’s like the lovechild of a Swampert and a Hariyama, with a dash of Machamp somewhere in his steroid-pumped ancestry. He somehow manages to look totally adorable while being awesomely cool at the same time.

I have to say, this generation, with Greninja and Swampert Phat, has been awesome for a water-type lover like me, especially after the drought (heh) that was the previous few generations. Excited!

ps. Oh yes, and Atom Kyogre too.
